For years the surf billboards in Torquay, Victoria, have raised my hackles. Why, I wondered, do the blokes get to showcase their sportsmanship while the women – most professional surfers – are left to pose in bikinis?
Back in 2014 I spoke to some of the surf company marketers and even found a swell of like-minded support through this Change.org petition. And loads of people who told us to shut-up, too.
So it was with fist-pumping happiness that I found Rip Curl had replaced the tired Alana Blanchard billboard with one of Tyler Wright ripping it up on a real wave this month.
Thanks Rip Curl! Long may it inspire the young girls of the Surf Coast.
